RD-BR 2015 07-21 ROAD AND BRIDGE REPORT July 21, 2015 Present: Commissioners Leonard Wortman, Cory Kirsch and Bob Mullen and Road Supervisor, Rory Parsons. Rory Parsons reviewed the road and bridge report with the Commissioners. Montana City Crew The crew has been cleaning the roads in preparation for chip sealing. They mowed Martinez Gulch Road and cleaned the shoulders on Jackson Creek Road. The crew is working on Holmes Gulch Road today. Boulder Crew The crew is prepping the Sloanes Lane and Little Boulder so dust oil can be applied on Thursday. Eight hundred and twenty yards of gravel were put on Elkhorn Road. Six hundred and twenty yards were leftover from the Lower Valley Road project and Parsons purchased an additional two hundred yards of gravel to finish the road. The crew will begin digging out the holes on Boulder River Road in preparation for the chip application. Whitehall Crew The crew has been patching the asphalt on Tebay Lane and helping the Boulder crew haul gravel on Elkhorn Road, The crew will grade Willow Springs Road when weather permits. Discussion was held on what needs to be done on this road, Wortman asked Parsons to talk with McCauley's before proceeding. Chips Bullock is unable to produce the chips for Parsons. He told Parsons of another vendor to purchase chips from for approximately fourteen dollars a ton. The vendor is located in Winston. Parsons intends to use the chips in the Montana City area. Wortman asked if the county can save money by purchasing the chips locally even if the price is higher per ton. Parsons will check on the price of chips from local vendors. Jackson Creek Parsons met with Bullock and viewed the problems with the drainage on this road project. Bullock will probably install a culvert to keep the water from going over the top of the ditch onto the road. The road crew will chip the shoulder and work on the ditch and pipes as needed to keep the drainage issues from becoming a problem. The utilities are located on the road easement and there is really no way to fix the drainage problem entirely. Chip Sealing Schedule Parsons plans to chip seal various roads during the week of August 3. The schedule may be set back a few days to a week as the oil supplier may not be able to deliver as planned. Madison County asked Parsons to chip seal 2.8 miles on South Boulder Road. Parsons will review the road and meet with their road supervisor before he commits to this project. Mullen said he would contact the residents on Martinez Gulch when Parsons has a better idea of the date the crew will begin chip sealing this road. Dunn Lane Bridge This dismantling of the bridge is scheduled to begin August 3. The road crew is in charge of the signs for this project. The project should be completed by Oct. 15. Wortman asked Parsons to post a notice in the paper notifying the public of the detour. Tizer Lake Road Parsons has not had a chance to look at this road. Research will be done by the Clerk and Recorder's office on this road. Signs Wortman asked Parsons to put up two signs where the road forks by the fairgrounds noting the direction to Whitehall and the fact that the other road is a dead end road. Highway 69 will be worked on and people will get lost if they take the wrong road. The 25 mph sign in Jefferson City to the mine needs to be larger and placed farther back from the road or in a different location. Parsons will be attending a road workshop next Tuesday at the MACO building in Helena. j 2 ATTEST: Bonnie Ramey Leonard Wortman, Chairman Clerk and Recorder Bob Mullen, Commissioner Avo" Cory Kirsch.
