2017-09-21 MINUTES Jefferson County Library Board Regular Business Meeting Agenda at Boulder Library September 21,2017 Orderly public comment is welcomed. Public is advised that County Commissioners may attend the meeting. Regular Business Meeting is generally called to order at 6:30 p.m. In attendance: Danielle Lattin, Jackie Thiel, Jan Ziettlow, Velda Bowman,Jeannie Ferriss, Jodi Smiley I. Called to Order Meeting was called to order at 6:40. II. Introduction of New Board Member Velda Bowman will officially become a board member on September 26. She introduced herself to the Board. III. Agenda Review No changes. IV. Public Comment No public comment. V. Previous Meeting Minutes Approval VI. Correspondence Boulder Friends of the Library received a thank you card from two students who won prizes for the Summer Reading Program. VII. Reports Boulder Library EBSCO Databases: Jodi worked with the Clancy and Jefferson High School libraries to contract to get the EBSCO Databases. There was a conflict because the company wanted to charge schools an additional fee. They were able to resolve the issue. Budget: The commissioners adjusted the Board and temporary employee budget to provide more money for the lawn and parking lot. Jackie and Danielle are going to get on the agenda for the next commissioner meeting. Exploration Works: Exploration Works offered the Boulder Library to purchase fam- ily memberships. 4 adults and 6 kids at a time can visit per pass every day of the year. Jodi purchased a pass with her library programming budget and she talked to the Friends of the Library about purchasing another pass. Exploration Works is going to offer free Tinker Labs at the library every month for the entire school year. Jackie recommended sending information to the school to spread the word. Jodi said she has already talked to Rochelle about the Tinker Labs because they want as many people as possible. Robotics: There are 8 kids on the Robotics team. They are working well together. Jodi, Anne Moone, Sara Gasch, and Keith Schultz. They had an all day build, and all of the models for the table were done. They are starting programming. Head Start: They are supposed to be coming back, but they do not know when. Boulder Friends of the Library Storm Center: The Friends are showing Storm Center in honor of banned books week. Jeannie is talking to authors to see if they will come. Whitehall Library Jefferson Valley Grant Foundation: They visited and loved that the computers are get- ting so much use. The fall computer classes are full, and the January classes are start- ing to fill up. Art Camp: The after-school program is helping with the children's art camp, and it is going really well. Central Air: The Whitehall Library is looking into the cost of getting central air. They also have a patron who has offered to donate an air conditioner. UsBourne Books: Renee Kockler donated$568 in UsBourne materials to the Library as part of her Frontier Days booth. These funds were used to purchase level 3 prizes for summer reading next year. MSL: Jeannie and Jodi attended an excellent MSL workshop in Bozeman on commu- nication and programming. Whitehall Friends of the Library Summer Reading: Total cost was $205.86. The Friends received $900 from the Whitehall Rotary Club, $250 from Black Tie/Blue Jeans, $400 from the Whitehall school district, and $400 from the Star Theater. VIII. Old Business Housekeeping Whitehall Locks: Ace from Whitehall came to the library, checked the locks, and will be changing the locks. Boulder Lawn: Jodi had Greenline do the lawn, but they haven't received an invoice. Snow Plowing: Jodi talked to Greg Hollatz from Hollatz Trucking about doing the snow plowing for the library. Upcoming Events/Seminars/Library Programs Broadwater Federation Meeting: The next meeting is September 26 via teleconfer- ence. PLDN: Jeannie may go to the PLDN meeting at Chico 15 and 16 of October. Jodi isn't going because she wants to go to Offline and MLA. IX. Financial and Budget Review of Library Board and Administration Financials Depreciation Fund: Danielle talked to Bonnie and there is $50,000 in the cash ac- count. Bonnie figured the Board can easily put$15-17K in the depreciation fund. X. New Business XI. Financial/Bills Jan moved to pay the bills. Jackie seconded. XII. Adjourn Meeting adjourned at 8 :00.
