DEPT HEAD 2019 04-16 HAZMAT RESPONSE PROTOCOL Hazmat Response Protocol Meeting April 16,2019 Present: Commissioners-Leonard Wortman, Bob Mullen, and Cory Kirsch, County Sanitarian, Megan Bullock and DES Coordinator, Doug Dodge Discussion was held regarding the proper hazmat response protocols and the new incident management plan. Dodge reviewed the revised response protocols with the Commission. The legal requirements of the plan have been included. Dodge has created a"cheat" sheet that he has provided each fire department. The owner of the truck is responsible for clean up. Dodge will manage the incident and help facilitate what needs to be done. The sheriff's office or highway patrol will be called out for each incident. Megan asked what happens if the responsible party refuses to clean up after an incident. Doug replied that is why the sheriff or highway patrol is involved. If Dodge is unable to determine who owns the product such as a meth lab then the county has to clean it up. DEQ's hazmat unit can be called in if we can't determine what the product is or how to clean it up. Doug has an orange book that includes all information regarding hazmat. The fire departments have received hazmat training. Kirsch asked who should be called if Dodge is unavailable. Dodge replied that the Sheriff, Megan or Bob Frye can be called.
