RD-BR 2019 12-17 ROAD AND BRIDGE REPORT December 17,2019 Present: Commissioners: Leonard Wortman, Cory Kirsch and Bob Mullen, Road Supervisor, Rory Parsons. Rory Parsons reviewed the road and bridge report with the Commissioners. Minutes Kirsch moved to approve the Road and Bridge minutes of December 10, 2019. Mullen seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Montana City Crew The crew has been cleaning the shop. They will start hauling gravel from Boulder today. Parsons got the bus schedules from the schools so each crew knows when the buses will start running again after the holidays. Clancy starts back to school on January 2. All other schools will start on January 5. Boulder Crew The crew has been plowing snow and sanding roadways. They will widen the road and knock down the wash boards on the Whitetail today. Yesterday they plowed snow in Elk Park. Whitehall Crew The crew has been grading wash boarded roadways and fixing signs. Equipment Keith has talked to the repairman and the motor grader will be down at least six weeks and the cost will be approximately $5500.00. Parsons will talk to Doherty regarding this issue. Parsons met with T&E regarding our motor graders. Parsons would like the county to enter into a maintenance program with T&E. It has been proven that after 10,000 hours of work components on the graders are at the end of their life. The county can have the machine rebuilt for approximately$66,000 and it will extend the life of the machine at least another 10 years. Parsons suggested setting up a program whereby the county has one grader per year rebuilt. Mullen asked what T&E can do that Keith is unable to do. Parsons replied that it would take Keith six weeks to rebuild the components. Keith is in support of entering into this program. Parsons stated that for the price of one machine the county can repair and maintain five machines. Wortman suggested giving the road fund $70,000 to start the program. Mullen and Kirsch agreed. Phone List Eyer will provide the Commission with a current phone list for all road crew members. Solid Waste Site in Boulder Parsons suggested looking at the road to the solid waste site in Boulder. The cattle guard should be removed and a new intersection for merging traffic should be put in. Parsons is concerned about the flow of traffic now that more homes are being built in the area.
