RES 1987-05 CELEBRATION OF BICENTENNIAL OF US CONSTITUTION RESOLUTION NO. 5 -87 WHEREAS the Board of County Commissioners has endorsed the celebration of the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights; WHEREAS the Board of County Commissioners has determined to recognize the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights by establishing a local Bicentennial Celebrations Committee; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners establishes a local Bicentennial Celebrations Committee pursuant to the following guidelines: Member Selection Applications for membership on the committee will be accepted from any Jefferson County resident. From the applicants, the County _ Commissioners will appoint nine members to serve on the committee at their April 27, 1987 meeting. Tenure The first meeting of the committee will be on Thursday, May 14, 1987, which is the 200th anniversary of the convening of the Constiutional Convention. The committee will serve through December of 1991 on a voluntary basis without financial compensation. Purpose The committee will establish an agenda for celebrating such events as the completion of the work of the Constitutional Convention, the ratification of the Constitution, the establishment of the new government and the establishment of the Bill of Rights. The committee will present the agenda to the Board of County Commissioners for approval. The Commission will not grant approval of any agenda which advocates changes in the Constitution or Bill of Rights. organization The Board of County Commissioners will select a temporary chairperson who will preside at the first meeting until the committee selects its own officers. Funding Any projects proposed by the committee will be funded through private donations. No county funds will be budgeted. DATED this 6th day of April, 87.
