Fifth Judicial District Court

The District Courts are courts of general jurisdiction. General jurisdiction courts process all felony cases, all probate cases, most civil cases at law and in equity, certain special actions and proceedings, all civil actions that may result in a finding against the state for the payment of money, naturalization proceedings, various writs, and some narrowly-defined ballot issues. The District Courts also have limited appellate jurisdiction over cases arising in the Courts of Limited Jurisdiction in their respective districts as may be prescribed by law and consistent with the Constitution.

The Jefferson County Clerk of District Court’s office has gone live with e-filing.

Please get signed up and file your civil and criminal documents via e-filing. 

If you aren’t already registered for e-filing, you can sign up by going to the e-filing informational website: https://courts.mt.gov/courts/efile. There you will be able to find training materials, videos, registration instructions and the Temporary Electronic Filing Rules. The login/registration link is also available on this website (by clicking on the “Login using ePass Montana” button) or by going directly to this page, instead: https://mtefile.courts.mt.gov/login.
